Today, May 17, Queens rapper Lionel "Chinx" Pickens has been declared dead. Chinx was reportedly shot at 4am in the passenger's seat of his car while driving in Briarwood, Queens.
The management companies associated with the Coke Boys' rapper have released a statement on his death:
"It is with a heavy heart that The Legion Media Group and 4 Kings Management announce the passing of Lionel 'Chinx' Pickens this morning. He was 31.
Few details are available about his passing but his management confirmed his passing this morning. The rapper from Queens, New York was a member of French Montana's Coke Boys.
Chinx's dedication, humor, and vision will always be remembered: 'Chinx was one of the most talented, dedicated, and determined rappers this industry had to offer,' says publicist Chanel Rae, 'Furthermore, he was a friend.'"
Police report that Chinx and another victim were driving westbound in Chinx's Porsche on Queens Boulevard, before another vehicle pulled up on 84th Road and opened fire. So far they have discovered no motive. The man driving Chinx's car remains in critical condition.
Chinx was planning to release his debut album, Welcome to JFK, later this year.
