While driving in his mother's funeral procession in Duxbury, Massachusetts, Benzino, sometimes called Zino Grigio, was shot multiple times and was in critical condition. The rapper could be recently seen on the provocative television program, "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta."
According to online sources, Benzino's nephew was the one allegedly responsible for the shooting and the nephew is now being held in custody. We are happy to report Benzino now finds himself in a hospital and in stable condition.
Adam Harding of 7news broke the story, reporting on his twitter:
Last week, Benzino announced the passing of his mother with the heartfelt message:
“God knows I have been through alot in my life, BUT EVERY INCH OF GOOD, KINDNESS AND LOVE IN MY SOUL IS BECAUSE OF THIS WOMAN. A BIG PART OF ME IS LOST NOW AND I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME, MA WORDS CANT EXPRESS MY LOVE FOR YOU.I WILL MISS EVERY BREATHING MOMENT, I DON’T KNOW HOW I WILL CONTINUE KNOWING YOU ARE NOT HERE. Im lost.”
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Benzino and we hope he makes a full recovery during this unfortunate time.
According to the Plymouth County District Attorney, Timothy Cruz:
“The incident was between two vehicles whose occupants knew each other. The driver of a Bentley shot the driver of a red Dodge SUV, who exited his car and was taken to the Duxbury police station by a passerby. The injured red Dodge SUV driver, who officials say was in his 40s, was then transported by ambulance to the hospital. The Bentley driver has been arrested and will be arraigned Monday on a charge of armed assault with intent to murder.”

[Update: Benzino's Nephew Pleads Not Guilty, Claims Self-Defense]
Not 48 hours after shooting his uncle Benzino during his mother's funeral procession, Gai Scott has appeared in Plymouth District Court and plead not guilty, claiming self-defense (he's been charged with armed assault with intent to murder). The incident was allegedly sparked by disagreements concerning the management of Bezino's mother's land.
"When the dust settles, this case will be shown to be self-defense," Scott's attorney told The Boston Globe. "My client and his family, including Maureen [Scott], vehemently deny any accusations that Benzino is making. I would suggest that he [the uncle] has an agenda in utilizing and self-promoting at this time."
Benzino's lawyer disagrees, though, stating that firing six shots into a car and initiating a chase "doesn't sound like self-defense to me". Watch an in-hospital interview with the victim below, and stay tuned for updates.
