Azealia Banks has been embroiled in an assault case stemming from an incident in 2015 when she attacked a female bouncer and bit her breast at a New York club. She most recently had an arrest warrant out for her after failing to appear in court, but it was dismissed after she reschedule her court appearance. On the eve of her trial today, Banks has decided to take a plea deal.
As part of the deal, Azealia Banks will plead guilty to third-degree assault. In return, she will receive a deferred no-jail sentence, pending her completion of an anger management course, continuation of mental health treatment, full compliance with a protection order and avoidance of any further legal issues. It’s a pretty good deal, but based on Banks’ erratic past behavior, who knows.
The decision to take a plea deal after pushing things to a court case was likely influenced by the prosecutions introduction of Banks’ 2009 boxcutter attack against her sister and the altercation she had with Russell Crowe in October of last year to the case. To put the icing on the L cake, Banks had to switch from a private lawyer to a free, court-pointed counselor for this case.
