After a bit of backlash and a change of actress, the Aaliyah biopic is finally being readied for November, to air on Lifetime TV.
Disney star Zendaya Coleman was initially tapped to star as Aaliyah, although after much criticism she ended up dropping out the film, not because of the critics, but because Aaliyah's family wasn't actually on board with the movie. The role was soon cast to another child actress, this time a Nickelodeon star, Alexandra Shipp. The film, titled "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B", is expected to premiere on Lifetime on November 15th, according to TV channel's tweet today.
The movie is based off the book "Aaliyah: More Than a Woman", and will be executive produced by Wendy Williams. Along with the announcement of the biopic's release date, Lifetime released a photo of Alexandra in the role of Aaliyah. Take a look and let us know what you think.
