Lil Wayne recently cut his set short at a High Times event in California, and anyone who's been following the rapper's career will know it wasn't first time he's walked off stage. If Weezy has a problem with the way a show is going, he has no problem pulling the plug, as we've seen him do a few times now. Reaching back to 2008, we've assembled some footage of the times Wayne has given up on a set prematurely, from the DJ playing the wrong song, to mic difficulties, to dissatisfaction with the crowd. The man certainly puts on a good show 99% of the time, so don't let these moments discourage you from checking him out live, just make sure to give him the right energy, and if you're the DJ, play the right damn song.
Richmond
Richmond, Virginia (January 2008)
Wayne arrived to the Richmond venue 3 hours late. After spending the day in Arizona court and suffering major flight delays, the rapper admitted to the crowd he wasn't in the best mood, but it certainly wasn't their fault. After performing “I'm a D-Boy ” and “Duffle Bag Boy,” he walked off stage, enraging fans who waited hours to see him. The good news is, he did make it back to perform the rest of his set, but unfortunately he was convincing enough that some fans left the venue assuming they'd seen the whole show.
Nova Southeastern University
Nova Southeastern University, Florida (March 2015)
One of Wayne's more memorable exits came at a university, where an attempt to play his remix of OT Genasis' "CoCo" went horribly wrong, as his DJ accidentally played the original record, rather than the backing track for Wayne's version. Of course, Weezy couldn't do anything with the original track (complete with vocals), and promptly threw his mic at the DJ before stomping backstage. According to TMZ, Wayne and DJ 4our 5ive, who he's been working with for 8 years, got over the awkward moment and were back on terms by the next show.
Milan
Milan Fashion Week (January 2016)
Wayne's performance at Milan's fashion week did not go as planned, as Weezy was visibly discouraged within a few seconds of his performance of Carter 4 ht, "John," yelling side-stage, "Is this what you want me to do? You serious?" While it seemed he may have been disappointed with crowd reactions, his team insists it was actually mic trouble that caused the rapper pull the plug after what one journalist said was a mere 10 seconds.
High Times
High Times Medical Concentrates Cup in San Bernardino, California (July 2016)
The most recent incident in which Wayne found himself leaving the stage mid-set was at the High Times-orchestrated festival in San Bernardino. While the rapper was expected to perform for a full hour, fans report it was more along the lines of 3 minutes, as a clip showing the rapper making comments about his dissatisfaction with the event on stage predicts. “Don’t you ever, ever, ever ask me to do this shit again!” he says, before launching into a pointed take on "Steady Mobbin." And like that he was gone. So far, he has shared no explanation over why he chose to cut things short, but fans on Instagram have speculated it was due to the crowd being too "mellow".
