It seems to be a bittersweet time to for premium cable producers. On one hand, television content is stronger than ever, with shows like Power, Game Of Thrones, Better Call Saul & Westworld reaching near cinematic heights. On the flipside, the developing technology makes it that much easier to pirate and worse, prematurely leak material.
HBO recently suffered a server hack which led to the release of several episodes of Ballers, a Game Of Thrones episode, and several scripts. Now, 50 Cent and the Power team are finding themselves in a similar predicament. According to EW, the final episodes of Starz' most popular show have been leaked and spread to social media. The leaker reportedly used a cracked iPhone to stream the episodes, and proceeded to upload videos of him playing them on his Facebook page.
However, in what may not have been the wisest move, the leaker may very well have revealed his identity in some of the videos. As of now, no legal actions have been pursued.
A Starz spokesperson released an official statement on the leak, confirming that “the final three episodes of Power’s fourth season were leaked online due to a breach of the press screening room. This seems to be a case of password sharing that resulted in homemade videos of the episodes which were taped off a TV screen and posted online. STARZ has begun forensic investigations and will take legal action against the responsible parties.”
